An alternative to doing that is to submit your site to Google's webmaster's tools. I would also recommend you add your site to Bing and Yahoo's webmaster's tools as well. Once you have your site submitted to these places, you can also add your sitemap to them. Social bookmarking can also be quite effective at getting indexed quickly and is my personal choice for getting indexed within a day or two. And of course it goes without saying to Tweet your website as Twitter gets crawled constantly.
