I used the monthly traffic data provided by Nielsen and Comscore and I have generate some comparisons charts based on the estimative values provided. The charts and the table values for 2007 are for the US market. I have tried my best to provide them in a form which is a easy to read. If you prefer a download version, please use the PDF report.

My thoughts about the data I am about to present to you:

1. in 29 January Yahoo! Reports Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2007 Financial Results which are beyond the expectations. Still from the charts bellow I see quite a drastic decrease in the number of searches which will affect for sure also the paid advertising.

2. Google is still the king of searches regarding the number of delivered search results. A slow but clear increase in searches is to be observed.

3. Microsoft, oscillating from one month to another, stealing from Ask and Yahoo share of searching, is still to be consider as a potential next big Google IF a Yahoo! purchase will be done.

Why in the world is so hard to find a SEO Magazine?

If you are at all interested in SEO or if you are a Search Engine Optimization Professional then you read probably plenty of SEO forums and SEO blogs. What can a SEO magazine bring more? For a start reading a SEO Magazine would be the best thing you could do to get you away from your computer for more than 10 minutes.

You can observe based on the date before the Google update and after a big difference between the way Google PR is distributed over these directories. Infact we can call it a downgrade, the number of directories with PR0 before the Google PR update was 357, after the PR update the number increased to 1207. I have displayed bellow in a graphical mode the distribution of the new Google PR and the PR fluctuations.

DAY 1:

Asa Dotzler was unable to come but he was kind enough to send a podcast. Asa Dotzler is best known for his work as community coordinator for several Mozilla projects. He was one of the keyspeakers of this year ESWC, too bad he was not able to come. Still a nice podcast (you can imagine some arrows was launched toward Microsoft Internet policy ).

Andy Brice from Oryx Digital presented after the launch break an interesting point of view for the software usability. Are these rules apply strictly to software? No. Every website design must take in consideration most of the rules described there. His presentation “Increasing conversions through better usability” is available as download in PowerPoint 2007 and PowerPoint 2000 on his blog entry.

Rüdiger Kügler from WIBU-SYSTEMS held a presentation with the name, “Earn more money with new license models” ( available as pdf for download ).
The day ended with my presentation: “SEO optimization and online promotion” in which I am trying to expose some of the general SEO techniques and in the same time cover some of the specialized techniques for software producers. So what was new this year?

I would say first a lot of companies and solutions for email marketing, starting with InxMail, emm-Xpress, EmailVision and finishing with companies like emarsys.

Why so many solutions for email marketing?
Basically because in Germany email marketing is treated as a serious part of marketing strategies, also somehow better regulated using special laws.

My favorite part was to see a lot of niche companies offering various type of services like:

- a German marketplace for textlinks - Teliad (they offer at this link a 10 euro reduction)
- adtube - they offer a 25% reduction special for this event
- our friends from oneNetworkDirect were also there - thank you for the nice presents

Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Advertising Solutions were also there with impressive stands. Here are 3 pictures I took at the stands of the biggest players in the search industry.

UPDATE - I was asked in SeopPedia forum to add some more details, rumors so here you go:

1. Mobile search and advertising was the theme of this year OMD, the solution and possibilities seems to grow overnight. Take a look at the presentation from mobile marketing association.

2. Some of the nicest gadgets I got were from DoubleClick. Besides some great reports on advertising trends we got some nice SB drives and T-Shirts

3. Last point. There was only one company as exhibitor presenting software solution. They present a software name SEOmetrie, but they were unable to show a live demo because “the software is not ready, we are 7 persons working for 3 years to it”. Hey guys wake up, we are forced to provide for Website Popularity monthly silent updates to keep up with the changes.
